There's no more spiritual experience in contemporary jazz than a live show by composer/keyboardist Matsui, who blends lush keyboard melodies, explosive improvisations, and a true Eastern spirit drawn from her Japanese heritage. White Owl, a special-edition DVD, captures Matsui's vibrant 2002 live performance at Bunkamura Orchard Hall, Tokyo, where she played many of her best-loved tunes with her regular band (including the prominent Michael Ghegan on sax, Mel Brown on bass, and husband Kazu Matsui on the shakuhachi flute). The audio portion includes new tunes like the title track as well as groove-intensive, sax-driven standbys "Moonlight Sailor" and "Across the Sun." There are also three solo piano pieces that offer a rare intimate look at Matsui's classically inspired piano passions. The DVD includes 15 songs and clips from Matsui's travels in the U.S.A., Morocco, South Africa, and Istanbul.

In October 1986, Jean Michel Jarre went to his hometown of Lyon, to play for the long-awaited and welcome guest of Pope John Paul II. The concert, which took place nedaleko the river Saone, was bright with a spectacular view of the kind of visual and sound design, which has become a unique feature of Jarre. At the scene, along with the composer were 60 musicians and a choir of more than 120 people. The concert attracted more than 800,000 spectators who had gathered on the banks of the river and on the streets blizlezhayshih. When approaching the days of the concert, the organizers apprehensive as ancient prophecy of Nostradamus predicted that the Pope is killed in a famous French city, where two rivers, and this description is very reminiscent of the city of Lyon. Jarre did not attach any importance to gloomy predictions of Nostradamus, and the concert was a huge success, despite the numerous security that surrounded the Holy Father.

In 1993, Jarre was appointed by the UN, UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador, for his ongoing contribution to the Arts & Entertainment and for his energy and talent in highlighting various local cultural aspects in his performances around the globe. On Bastille Day 1995, in front of the Eiffel Tower, in the centre of Paris, he conceived and performed his “Concert for Tolerance”, celebrating the 50th anniversary of the United Nations. The concert began with a flyover of the concert area, Champs de Mars, by French Army’s prestigious Patrouille de France. The Eiffel Tower had never been so artistically lit : this incited the French Government to give the capital’s landmark a permanent new lighting effect for the Millennium and which contiues today. The concert offered many of Jarre’s greatest hits, but also some less well-known work, such as Industrial Revolution… The general theme, Tolerance, was clearly expressed in the giant visual projections, and also with the presence alongside Jarre of Khaled, a megastar in the Arab world. “The Orchestrion Project” was filmed in high definition at the former St Elias Church in Greenpoint, Brooklyn in November 2010. It features Pat Metheny on guitar performing with the Orchestrion, a vast collection of mechanical instruments that surround Pat Metheny in this atmospheric setting. The focus of the performance is the “Orchestrion Suite”, a work written specifically for this combination and debuted on Pat Metheny’s “Orchestrion” album released earlier in 2010. Added to this are other tracks from across Metheny’s prolific career going right back to “Unity Village” from his debut solo album “Bright Size Life” in 1976 and including other tracks from the seventies, eighties and nineties.
This is a unique collaboration between a master guitarist and the pinnacle of mechanical music.
